Emergency Firefighter:

Emergency firefighters, or EFFs, are employed on a Call-When-Needed basis.  When a fire starts EFFs are called in to serve on a 20 person handcrew for the duration of that fire, which can be up to 14-21 days at a time.  The Mount Tolman Fire Center offers basic training in the spring for people interested in becoming EFFs.  All people interested in attending basic training must first pass a pre-employment drug test, and the Packtest at the arduous rating.  Pre-Employment drug screening takes place at the Mount Tolman Fire Center (check calendar for times). The Packtest is a 3 mile course which must be completed in under 45 minutes, while wearing a 45 pound vest.  Once both of these reqirements have been met, you can attend Basic Fire Training which is a 40 hour course.  Upon completion of Basic Fire Training you will be qualified as a wildland firefighter for the Mount Tolman Fire Center, and your name willl be placed on a call list during the summer.
