Colville Indian Reservation

Fire Management Zones

For weather tracking reasons, the Colville Indian Reservation is divided into zones based on elevation and the dominant fuel model in that area.  Weather observations and Fuel Moisture readings are taken in each of these zones to determine the Energy Release Component of that zone.  Monitoring the ERCs helps us determine what level the Fire Danger should be, by observing the changes in weather patterns and how they will affect fire behavior.

This map shows the Fire Management Zones on the Colville Indian Reservation.

Energy Release Components

The Energy Release Component measures how hot a fire can burn in that specific fuel model under the current fire weather.  The ERCs are presented on a graff that shows the Maximum (RED), Minimum (BLUE), Average (GREY), and the Current (GREEN) ERCs for each Fire Management Zone on the Colville Indian Reservation from 1969 to the present.

Pocket Cards

For each Fire Management Zone there is a graph referred to as a Pocket Card.  These Pocket Cards are used by Mount Tolman Fire Center Staff and Incident Management Teams to monitor the historical weather patterns from 1969 to now.
