Our Mission:

The mission for the Natural Resource Department is to create a balance within natural resource management actions, which reflects social, cultural, economic, and natural resource values of reservation residents.

Our Vision:

The vision for the Natural Resource Department is to manage the natural resources to enhance and maintain the ecological health of the environment and the social well-being of Tribal members and other human populations.

• The basic principles supporting this vision are:

• Natural resources can be managed to provide for human use and a healthy environment.

• Resource management must be focused on ecological principles to reduce the need for single resources or single species management.

• Stewardship, the involvement of people working with natural processes, is essential for successful implementation.

• The Holistic approach provides the greatest opportunity to manage the Reservation’s resources while enhancing and maintaining the desired quality of life.

• A carefully designed program of monitoring, research and adaptation will be the change mechanism for achieving this vision.
